French Stocks Close on Negative Note

The CAC 40 index fell about 0.7% to close at 6,697 on Monday, tracking a general cautious mood in Europe, as investors weighed weak economic data, recession fears and prospects of further monetary policy tightening.

Fresh PMI data showed economic activity in major Euro Area economies shrank in November.

Meanwhile, traders continued to monitor news about the easing of covid curbs in China.

On the corporate front, Bouygues was the top loser, down 2.9%, after BofA Securities downgraded its opinion on the title of the construction and communication group from "neutral" to "underperformance".

Tech companies and luxury stocks were also among the worst performers, with losses between 1.5% and 2.7%.
