Indonesian Rupiah Weakens

The Indonesian rupiah depreciated 0.7% to around 15,560 against the US dollar on Tuesday, sliding for the second day, as the dollar stayed firm amid upbeat US service-sector activity data in November as well as stronger-than-expected job and wage growth in the world's largest economy.

Meantime, recent data showed that Indonesia's annual inflation was at 5.42% in November, above the upper limit of the central bank's 2-4% target for the sixth straight month; while core consumer prices remained elevated at 3.3%.

Elsewhere, a private survey report showed Monday that factory activity in Indonesia grew the least since June in November, with foreign sales falling the most in 15 months as some countries faced rising COVID cases while both output and new orders moderated.
