Breakout of a pattern and afterward price range

in technical analysis there is a thinking that the range of price movement after a pattern breakout is almost half/equal/ double of the range of the pattern, well double is exceptional case so can't be generalized , but idea of half and equal ranges is mostly seen in the chart. but again not a standard
