Heads Up Indicator — ALT/BTC Relative Strength + 4H Confirm

Heads-Up highlights when an alt is showing strength vs BTC and makes that easy to act on with a simple badge:
Red = WAIT (nothing aligned)
Amber = WATCH (halfway there)
Green = ARMED (conditions align)
This allows you to manually scan your watchlist looking for possible trade setups by focusing on coins showing strength.

Relative strength (RS): On whatever USD Altcoin chart you click on, the script compares the alt to BTC (ALT/BTC) and displays it with a live ratio line.

Fast check: On your trading timeframe, RS live ratio line must be above its EMA-50, and price must be above VWAP session line to arm the badge to Green = Armed.

4H Confirm (optional): When ON and set to 4H, a gate is added: the 4H ALT/BTC RS ratio line must also be above its 4H EMA-50 to allow the badge to go Green = Armed.

Confirm = Live: the gate can open intra-bar on 4H when ratio line goes above EMA50.

Confirm = Closed: the gate only opens after a 4H candle/bar closes above its EMA-50.

What - Confirm = Live vs Confirm = Closed does :

Confirm = Live (4H): the 4-hour “gate” reacts during the current 4H candle. If the 4H ALT/BTC ratio pops above its 4H EMA50 halfway through the candle, the gate opens right then. If it drops back below before the 4H candle closes, the gate can close again = badge back to Amber.

Confirm = Closed (4H): the 4-hour gate waits for the 4H candle to finish. It only opens after a 4H candle has closed with the ALT/BTC ratio above its 4H EMA50. No intrabar flick on & off, the confirm will only allow/show Green / ARMED once close above.

This setting does not change how the ratio line is drawn. The ratio line still updates as price moves. It only changes when the 4H confirm is considered “true.”

GREEN (ARMED): fast RS>EMA-50 and price>VWAP; if Confirm is ON, the 4H gate is also open.

AMBER (WATCH): only one side is true (either the RS side or the VWAP side).

RED (WAIT): neither side is true.

How to use it :

Pick your trading timeframe (e.g., 15m/1h).

If you want higher-TF alignment for confirm, turn Confirm ON and set 4H (most reliable).

Treat Green (ARMED) as your “now conditions met”. Amber means “close but not yet.”

This is a tool for trading Altcoins and helping you recognise what kind of strength they are showing in the current market and what state they are currently in. It gives you context to help you make a clearer trading decision for entry and exit.

The EMA 20 is a fast EMA line which runs in the background giving a further layer of context and helps define breakouts and break of trend when it crosses the EMA50.

Works from explicit ALT/BTC relative strength, not price alone this is a very helpful unique tool allowing you to track RS without having to have a separate ALT/BTC candle chart window open.

Requires RS vs its own EMA-50 on the fast TF and a VWAP pass—two different conditions agreeing with each other which makes it a multi condition indicator.

Adds a 4H ratio gate (ALT/BTC vs its 4H EMA-50) with a Live/Closed selector, so you can choose intra-bar responsiveness or closed-bar certainty regardless of the TF you are charting.

Wraps it all in a clear Red / Amber / Green badge so conditions are simple to read at a glance.
You can also turn off the badge to use it in a more simplified way as a relative strength gauge.

For the most consistent use make sure your base ticker (BTC) is set to your exchange and also what pair your alts are on i.e USD or USDT/USDC for the most accurate readings and detection.

Key Inputs

Fast TF (how often the ratio line paints) (default 30m)

Confirm timeframe (default 4H) and mode (Live / Closed)

RS EMA length (default 50)
Fast EMA length (default 20)

Donchian Lookback is the period it looks back to set and mark previous Ratio high levels.
Lookback - 48 and 96 are good defaults for 1hr or 4hr chart TF use.

Live updates on = (dont wait for bar close) means the Ratio line will update live as price moves.

BTC symbol input (defaults to Coinbase/BTCUSD — change to BTCUSDT or your venue for match)

Badge on/off lets you turn the badge on or off.
